Volume Calculator

Calculate volume for cubes, boxes, cylinders, spheres, and cones with clear unit-based results.

Select a shape and enter dimensions to calculate volume.

How to Use

Choose a solid and unit, then enter positive dimensions in that same unit. Use perpendicular height for cylinders and cones, not slant height. Circular inputs require radius, which is half the diameter.

Formula and interpretation

Rectangular prism: length × width × height. Cube: side³. Cylinder: π × radius² × height. Sphere: 4 × π × radius³ / 3. Cone: π × radius² × height / 3. Results use cubic units such as cm³ or m³. Selecting a unit labels the inputs and result; it does not convert dimensions entered in different units.

Example

A 10 cm cube has volume 1,000 cm³. A 2 m × 3 m × 4 m rectangular prism has volume 24 m³. A cylinder with radius 2 cm and height 3 cm has volume 12π, approximately 37.70 cm³. A cone with the same radius and height has volume 4π, approximately 12.57 cm³.

Frequently asked questions

What if I know the diameter?

Divide the diameter by 2 before entering the radius. Using the diameter as the radius overstates the result.

How do cubic units convert?

Convert input lengths to a common unit first. One cubic meter equals 1,000,000 cubic centimeters; 1,000 cm³ equals 1 liter.

Can I calculate an irregular object?

These formulas assume one of the five supported solids. Split a composite object into suitable solids and combine their volumes, or use a different measurement method.
