Time Difference Calculator

Calculate the difference between two times or datetime values. Shows total hours, minutes, and seconds between timestamps.

How to Use

Enter a complete date and time in both fields, then press Calculate Time. For an overnight interval, select the next calendar date for the end time. Empty or invalid inputs show a validation message.

Formula and interpretation

The calculator takes the absolute difference between the timestamps. The result is hours : minutes : seconds, with separate totals in minutes and seconds; hours can exceed 24. Both inputs use your device time zone. They do not specify separate time zones or UTC offsets. Across daylight-saving changes, elapsed time may differ from the difference shown on a wall clock.

Example

On the same date, 10:00 to 12:30 gives 02 : 30 : 00, 150 minutes and 9,000 seconds. From 9 October 2026 at 22:45 to 10 October at 01:15, the result is also 2 hours 30 minutes if no UTC-offset change occurs.

Frequently asked questions

What if I reverse the inputs?

The result stays positive because the calculator uses the absolute time difference.

How are daylight-saving transitions handled?

The browser applies the device time zone rules. A skipped local time may be moved forward and a repeated local time resolves to the earlier occurrence. Avoid ambiguous transition times when you need to specify an exact offset.

Can I compare times in different cities?

Not directly: both timestamps use the same device time zone. Use Time Zone Difference to compare explicit UTC offsets; account for the offsets applicable on your dates.
