GST Calculator India
Calculate GST-inclusive and GST-exclusive amounts with CGST, SGST and IGST breakdowns.
About the GST Calculator India
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is an indirect tax on supplies in India. This tool calculates a single GST percentage on the amount you enter; it does not determine tax classification, input tax credits, cess or invoice eligibility. GST rates can vary by goods, services and classification. Select the rate applicable to your transaction and verify current rates with official Indian GST guidance when necessary. Presets are calculation choices, not a list of rates currently applicable to every transaction. This tool does not provide professional tax advice.
How to use it
Enter your amount in rupees, choose the applicable GST rate (or Custom % and a custom rate), select Intra-State or Inter-State, and choose Add GST or Remove GST. Press Calculate to see the breakdown. Zero is allowed. Amounts up to ₹10,00,00,00,00,000 and rates from 0% to 100% are supported.
Formula / Explanation
Add GST to an amount: GST = base amount × rate / 100; total = base + GST. Remove GST from an inclusive price: base = inclusive amount / (1 + rate / 100); GST component = inclusive amount − base. Do not multiply an inclusive price directly by the rate to extract its GST.
Example
At an illustrative 18%, ₹1,000 before GST gives ₹180 GST and a ₹1,180 total. Removing 18% GST from ₹1,180 returns a ₹1,000 base and ₹180 GST. Intra-State splits this into ₹90 CGST and ₹90 SGST; Inter-State shows ₹180 IGST instead. At 5%, ₹1,000 becomes ₹1,050, and reversing that price returns ₹1,000.
CGST vs SGST vs IGST: what does the breakdown mean?
For the Intra-State option, this calculator divides the selected GST rate and tax equally between CGST and SGST. For the Inter-State option, it shows the full rate and amount as IGST. Applicable Union Territory transactions may use UTGST instead of SGST. Verify the nature and place of supply under the relevant rules.
How do I remove GST from an amount?
Divide the GST-inclusive price by 1 plus the GST rate divided by 100. At 18%, divide by 1.18. Subtract the resulting base from the inclusive price to find the GST component.
Which GST rate should I select?
Choose the rate applicable to your transaction. This calculator cannot identify a product or service classification or establish an exemption. Check official GST/CBIC guidance rather than assuming that a preset applies.
Can I calculate zero GST or use a custom rate?
Yes. At 0%, GST is zero and the base equals the total. Select Custom % to enter another rate from 0% to 100%.
How are paise and large amounts handled?
Calculations use unrounded values internally, and rupee results are displayed with two decimal places using Indian digit grouping. Components are rounded independently, so their displayed sum can differ by one paisa. Values above the stated amount limit are rejected to keep results readable and numerically reliable.
