CBM Shipping Calculator
Calculate the volume of identical rectangular cartons in cubic meters and total cubic feet.
About the CBM Shipping Calculator
CBM means cubic meters, a unit of volume used to describe cargo and storage space. This shipping volume calculator totals identical rectangular cartons; it does not calculate freight charges or chargeable weight.
How to use it
Measure external length, width and height including packaging. Select the unit used for all three dimensions and enter a positive whole-number quantity. For mixed carton sizes, calculate each group separately and add their volumes.
Formula / Explanation
Convert each dimension to meters, then multiply: CBM per carton = L × W × H. Total CBM = per-carton volume × quantity. Total cubic feet = total CBM / 0.3048³. Conversion factors: cm × 0.01; m × 1; inches × 0.0254; feet × 0.3048.
Example
For 50 × 40 × 30 cm, the meter dimensions are 0.5 × 0.4 × 0.3. One carton is 0.060 m³; 10 identical cartons total 0.600 m³, approximately 21.1888 ft³. A carton measuring 12 × 12 × 12 inches is 1 ft³ or 0.028316846592 m³.
Does CBM determine my shipping price?
No. Carriers may consider actual weight, dimensional weight, service, minimum charges and their own rounding rules. This tool does not calculate any carrier-specific price or dimensional-weight divisor.
Should I measure inside or outside the carton?
Use outside dimensions including packaging and protrusions. Pallets, gaps and stacking restrictions can increase required cargo space beyond the sum of carton volumes.
Can I enter decimal dimensions or a fractional quantity?
Decimal measurements are supported. Quantity must be a positive whole number because it counts identical cartons. Choose one unit for all dimensions; mixed-unit entry is not supported.
Does it calculate container loading or irregular shapes?
No. Summed box volume does not prove that cartons fit in a container. For cylinders, spheres or other supported solids use the Volume Calculator; for measurements use the Unit Converter.
How precise are the results?
Results display up to 10 significant digits and use scientific notation for very small or large values. Intermediate calculations are not rounded. Your measurements and carrier rules determine practical shipping precision.
Are the inch and foot conversions exact?
Yes: one international inch is exactly 0.0254 m and one foot is exactly 0.3048 m. See NIST length units.
