About the Etsy Fee Calculator
This Etsy profit calculator estimates a single order from one listing for a seller with a US bank account using Etsy Payments. All amounts are USD equivalents. It does not convert exchange rates. Gross sales revenue excludes tax collected and remitted by Etsy. Net profit here is revenue minus the modeled Etsy fees and entered costs, before income tax and any unentered overhead.
How to use it
Enter the discounted selling price per unit and quantity, then your per-unit cost. Shipping, gift wrap and sales tax are totals for the whole order, not per unit. Choose how to account for the original listing fee; only include the extra renewal when remaining stock stays listed. Select an Offsite Ads tier only for an attributed order. Open Fee settings to edit defaults. Calculate, review the breakdown, then Copy. For mixed listings, calculate their listing charges separately; do not repeat the per-order processing charge for each item.
Formula / Explanation
Revenue R = price × quantity + buyer shipping + gift wrap. Payment P = R + Etsy-collected sales tax. Transaction fee = R × rate. Processing fee = P × rate + one fixed charge. Offsite Ads = min(R × selected rate, $100) when applicable. Conversion estimate = R × conversion rate when applicable (gross sales funds before fees, excluding remitted tax; compare with your Etsy statement). Listing charges = selected original allocation + (quantity − 1) × listing fee + optional one renewal; excluding listing fees makes all three zero. Costs = per-unit cost × quantity + actual shipping + wrap cost. Profit = R − total fees − costs. Margin = profit / R × 100; effective fee percentage = fees / R × 100. Both percentages are unavailable when R is zero. Each fee category is rounded to cents before totaling; Etsy statement rounding may differ.
Example
Two items at $30 each, $10 cost each, $5 shipping charged / $4 shipping cost, $3 wrap charged / $1 wrap cost, and $5.44 Etsy-collected tax: revenue is $68.00; buyer payment is $73.44. Allocate the original $0.20 plus one additional-unit $0.20, without another renewal. Transaction: $68 × 6.5% = $4.42. Processing: $73.44 × 3% + $0.25 = $2.4532, rounded to $2.45. With no ads or conversion, fees total $7.27, costs $25.00, profit $35.73, margin 52.54% and effective fees 10.69%. The $5.44 tax is not profit. A 15% attributed Offsite Ads fee adds $10.20; profit becomes $25.53.
Will this charge the original listing fee twice?
No. The default allocates it once and adds a fee for each extra unit sold from that listing. If you already booked the original fee elsewhere, select additional units only. A separate unchecked option includes one auto-renew-sold fee for remaining stock. This is distinct from the original fee and is not automatically added. Expired unsold renewals and other listings are outside this order estimate.
Which amounts include sales tax?
For this US model, transaction and Offsite Ads fees exclude sales tax collected and remitted by Etsy. Payment processing includes it. Enter a tax amount, not a tax rate. The calculator does not determine taxability, calculate sales tax or advise on seller tax obligations.
Which Offsite Ads tier should I choose?
Use the tier applicable to your shop and only for an attributed order. Etsy generally uses 15% below $10,000 in qualifying sales during a 365-day period, with 12% after the threshold is reached; participation then becomes required under its policy. Attribution and eligibility are determined by Etsy, not by this order value. The modeled charge is capped at $100 per order. Verify current terms in Etsy’s Fees & Payments Policy.
What fees are excluded?
Refunds, cancellations and fee credits are not modeled. Neither are deposit or payout charges, reserves, VAT on seller fees, seller-specific taxes, regulatory or other special country fees, setup fees, Etsy Ads pay-per-click spending, subscriptions, shipping-label adjustments, labor or overhead not entered as costs. This is a US order estimate, not a payout reconciliation or tax return.
Why can a zero sale or free item show a loss?
Zero inputs are allowed for what-if analysis. Listing charges and the fixed processing charge still follow your settings for this assumed order, even at zero buyer payment. A zero-payment scenario is not a prediction that Etsy will process such a payment. Check the actual statement; margin and effective fee percentage cannot be calculated on zero revenue. Negative prices and costs are not supported; this is not a refunds calculator.
Where do the editable defaults come from?
Defaults checked 1 November 2026: $0.20 listing, 6.5% transaction, US processing 3% + $0.25, Offsite Ads 15% / 12% with a $100 cap, and optional 2.5% conversion. See fees policy, multiple quantities, payment processing, and conversion fees. Change the rates if your applicable terms differ. Independent estimator; not affiliated with Etsy.
How can I compare profit without marketplace fees?
Use the Profit Margin Calculator for a general cost-and-revenue comparison, or the Break-Even Calculator to include fixed business costs. Neither automatically applies Etsy fees.
